Peter Temple of the Financial Times has added further to his portfolio of rare coins via some auction purchases. He states ... adding three ancient British items to my increasing collection in this area. I have also acquired a Charles I sixpence and a single-lot collection of 17 Charles I rose-style farthings. This flurry of purchases was completed by a classic George III 1797 “cartwheel” penny.
Another encouraging fact is that my regular dealer in Isle of Man coins, in which I have a sizeable interest, has acquired two large collections recently. This means that – for the first time in several years – he now has plenty of stock. The only limit to adding some choice items to my collection of Manx coins and tokens is the depth of my pocket and the prices being asked for the better items.
Coins, valued at cost, currently represent about 9 per cent of my portfolio, and I would be happy for this percentage to increase further if the right items were to become available.
Peter Temple is an active private investor writing about his own investments. He may have a financial interest in any of the companies and trading strategies mentioned.
